Welcome to Québec City
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, our sponsors and partners, we are pleased to welcome you to the international conference GOLD 2022, in Quebec City from July 17 to 20, 2022. This edition continues its mission to facilitate the dialogue and the exchange on research using gold for high-technology applications. The conference gathers academics and experts from around the world to discuss the latest advancements in the field of gold-based materials.
GOLD 2022 is a unique opportunity to get informed on booming scientific areas such as homogeneous catalysis, plasmonics, materials sciences, biotechnology, nanotechnology, therapeutic applications and as well as gold nanoparticles synthesis. To keep the scientific community aware of the latest advances in the field of gold for high-technology applications, the GOLD 2022 Committee organized a series of Webinars on each one of the main scientific topics of the conference. These Webinars have contributed to the organization of the conference and its structuring in the most optimal and dynamic manner.
Apart from a diversified scientific program, several workshops have been organized by our sponsors to present recent advances of currently used techniques in the nanomaterial field, such as a novel nanosizing method to support bottom-up process development (Workshop 1), DLS, NTA and zeta potential analysis and their good practices (Workshop 2), electron microscopy analysis (Workshop 3) and surface plasmon resonance measurements (Workshop 4).
The conference also aims to highlight the activities of local research centers, such as COREM (Centre de Recherche en Exploitation Minérale, gold extraction) and INO (optics). For the first time at a GOLD conference, attendees will have the opportunity to visit a state-of-the-art laboratory where advanced processes are developed for more sustainable mining and metallurgy practices, and visit the largest center of expertise in optics and photonics in Canada that had a huge impact on the development of the Optics R&D ecosystem in Canada. A walking tour of Old Québec, a World Heritage Site, is also offered to attendees to discover this historic district and visit the only fortified city north of Mexico.
The pooling of academic knowledge, in partnership with industry, will ensure the impressive progress needed to set the scientific stage for future gold innovation in high-tech applications.

Walking Tour of Old Québec, World Heritage Site (Pre-registration necessary)
First a visit to the Québec Parliament and its flourishing gardens. A unique structure of architectural style inspired by the expansion of the Louvre in Paris. The tour stops onto Place dArmes to enjoy its grandiose fountain statute. Close by, the tour continues to the Château Frontenac and its Dufferin Terrasse, a magnificent boardwalk overlooking the St. Lawrence River and offering a breathtaking view. Then is the Seminary of Québec, founded in 1663. Now occupied by the Architecture School of Laval University, this institution is a remarkable collection of buildings erected around enclosed courtyards. Following is the spectacular interior of the Notre-Dame-de-Québec Basilica-Cathedral. Then continuing to the Lower Town, finding ourselves in the middle of Place Royale where Samuel de Champlain founded Québec in 1608. Discover the restored houses of merchant families from the New France era. Let's wander into cobblestone streets and historic houses and take a peek at the Royal Battery facing the river for the defense of the city. A ride in the Funicular will bring you back to the upper part of the city. Time to appreciate the St-Lawrence River's panorama and a spectacular view of the lower town from a 45-degree angle.
